For international students, we offer hybrid programs that meet all SEVP requirements for students on F-1 visa, with an on-campus residencies each term.

Full course of study requirement:
- Graduate F-1 students will take one 10-week in-person residency course and one 10-week online course every term.
  - All graduate F-1 students will be required to attend ONE 3-day residency weekend in-person at the campus site every term.
- Undergraduate F-1 students will take two 10-week in-person residency courses and one 10-week online course every term.
  - All undergraduate F-1 students will be required to attend TWO 3-day residency weekends in-person at the campus site every term.
Residency location for international programs at American National University are in Louisville, KY.

Term Structure

American National University offers 5 terms a year to help students start a program without delay. A term consists of 10 weeks of classes followed by a one week break.

Do I speak English well enough to study at American National University?

There are several ways (see below) our international students demonstrate their proficiency in the English language – but even if you do not meet one of these requirements – American National University of Virginia has an English as a Second Language learning program available to help our international students get to the level they need in order to succeed in their classes. Once you have submitted your application, you can be provisionally accepted into a program and enrolled in a course at our English Language Institute that will help you build the foundation you need to succeed in an English-speaking educational program.

- Undergraduates: 500 on Paper based test, 61 on Internet based test.
- Graduates: 530 on Paper based test, 71 on Internet based test.
IELTS
- Undergraduates: 6.0 overall band score.
- Graduated: 6.5 overall band score.
PEARSON Test of English Academics Score Report
- Undergraduates: 44
- Graduates: 58

*No scores are required if Transcripts states “ Medium of Instruction: English”

*Students from countries that are Native English speakers (Nigeria for example) do not need scores
